The arrival of the August Festivals of Bétera 2026 brings with it some of the initiatives surrounding one of the most characteristic traditions of the municipality: gunpowder. The Vol Lliure association has launched the sixth edition of its photography contest, a proposal dedicated to those whom the entity defines as the true "guardians of fire" of Bétera .
The competition focuses on a very particular element of the veterans' festivities: the structures and protections that each year residents prepare to protect homes and facades during gunpowder acts. Cages, frames and other installations go from being simple protection elements to becoming the protagonists of a competition that is now in its sixth edition.
How to participate in the Vol Lliure contest
Interested people can participate by sending photographs of the installations made this year. The deadline will be open until August 15th, coinciding with the main days of the August Festivals in Bétera .
The images must be sent via WhatsApp to the number 617 085 082. Along with the photograph, it will be necessary to indicate the name of the person responsible for the assembly and the street on which the cage or protected facade is located.
In this way, Vol Lliure seeks to give visibility to a work that is part of the preparation of the festivities and which is especially important in a municipality in which gunpowder occupies a central place in the August celebrations.
Draw on August 16 at the Barracó dels Majorals 2027
Once the participation period has ended, each photograph received will be assigned a number to enter the draw organized by the association.
On August 16, Vol Lliure will hold the draw at the Barracó dels Majorals 2027, where the lucky photograph will be revealed. The winner will receive a voucher valued at 50 euros , which they can spend at the Barracó dels Majorals 2027.
The initiative thus incorporates a fun component into a tradition closely linked to the municipality's big days and invites citizens to also pay attention to all the work that is carried out before the main fireworks events begin.
Gunpowder and tradition during the August Festivals of Bétera
