The mobilization will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Plaça de la Mare de Déu, when the 22nd month of the DANA is celebrated on October 29, 2024.
The associations of victims of the DANA of October 29, 2024 have called for a new rally in Valencia for this Saturday . The mobilization will demand the removal of the capacity of the former president of the Generalitat Carlos Mazón and will once again demand answers about the management of the catastrophe that left 231 fatalities in the province of Valencia.
The protest will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Plaça de la Mare de Déu in Valencia, next to the Palau de la Generalitat. The call coincides with the day that marks exactly 22 months since the floods.
The victims' associations will be joined by social movements, the Local Emergency and Reconstruction Committees and the Valencian Social Agreement, which have once again called on citizens to participate in the rally.
"Memory doesn't go on vacation"
This is the motto with which the organizers wanted to emphasize that, despite the time that has passed since the catastrophe, they consider that there are still questions that need to be clarified.
As the organizers have stated in a statement, the rally is being called because "22 months later, many questions remain unanswered." Among the questions they raise are the reasons why the alert came so late, the responsibilities for the actions that were not carried out, or how many lives could have been saved with a different response.
One of the main demands of this new call will be the situation of Carlos Mazón. The groups are demanding that he lose the quorum status linked to his deputy record, and are publicly asking why the former president is keeping his seat.
Associations continue their mobilizations 22 months later
The organizers recalled that during these months different citizen groups have organized to maintain the protests and demand responsibility for the management of the emergency.
The organization maintains that the decisions adopted during that day contributed to transforming a natural catastrophe of extraordinary dimensions into what they describe as a "human catastrophe", and they hold Mazón and his Council politically responsible for the management carried out.
This Saturday's mobilization aims, therefore, to keep the victims' demands alive and continue demanding clarification of the circumstances surrounding the institutional response to the floods.
Victims will raise the questions they consider still unanswered
During the rally , representatives of the DANA victims' associations and the Local Emergency and Reconstruction Committees will speak , publicly presenting some of the questions that, according to them, have not yet received a satisfactory answer.
The day will also feature a musical and cultural aspect. The performance by Valencian singer-songwriter Pau Alabajos is planned, as well as the participation of a tabal and dolçaina group, a presence that has accompanied the different mobilizations held during these months.
With this new concentration, the victims' associations return to the streets of Valencia 22 months after the DANA of October 29, 2024, with the desire to maintain the memory of the 231 people who lost their lives and continue to demand answers and responsibilities regarding the management of that day.
