The August Festivals of Bétera 2026 are already being experienced with intensity in the municipality, but their essence has once again crossed the borders of the Camp de Túria. On the occasion of the celebrations, the Bétera City Council has continued with the traditional distribution of its emblematic basils , which these days have arrived at different Valencian institutions and town halls.
An initiative that allows us to bring the "dream aroma" of Bétera to different parts of the territory and make known one of the most unique and beloved traditions of the municipality.
The basils of Bétera travel to different Valencian municipalities
Basil is much more than a plant for the beteras. Its cultivation is closely related to the August Festivals of Bétera and has become, over the generations, one of the main symbols of the identity and popular culture of the municipality.
Therefore, coinciding with the main days of the festivities, the City Council has once again shared part of this tradition with other towns and institutions.
This year, the characteristic basils from Vétera have arrived in À Punt and the Intermunicipal Commonwealth of l'Horta Sud, as well as in the town councils of Olocau, Llíria, Beniflà, l'Eliana, Puçol, Benissanó, Vilamarxant, Xulilla, Casinos, Xeraco and Alcublas.
In this way, different points of the province and the Valencian Community can enjoy during these days one of the elements that best represent Bétera and its festivals.
A symbol of the August Festivals of Bétera
The main objective of the distribution is to promote and highlight the August Festivals , showing outside the municipality a tradition that every summer turns Bétera into one of the main centers of Valencian festive culture.
Basils are precisely the main protagonists of one of the most anticipated moments of the celebrations. On August 15, Bétera experiences the traditional Rodà de les Alfàbegues, a day in which these spectacular plants travel through the streets of the municipality amidst music, festivities and a large amount of confetti.
Before reaching that moment, the plants have been cultivated for months with special dedication. The result is the monumental basils that have turned this celebration into a festival that is difficult to find anywhere else and that every year arouses the interest of numerous visitors.
The "dream aroma" of Bétera travels beyond the Camp de Túria
The delivery of basil also allows Bétera to strengthen its ties with other municipalities and institutions and turn these plants into authentic ambassadors of the August Festivals.
From Olocau and Llíria to Eliana, Puçol, Xeraco or Beniflà, the aroma of basil these days recalls a celebration deeply linked to the history, traditions and identity of the people of Betera.
The initiative thus joins the promotion of festivals that combine basil, gunpowder, music, popular culture and Valencian traditions, and that during these days completely transform the streets of Bétera .
The August 2026 Festivals are lived in the municipality, but part of its essence travels much further afield. Basil is, once again, the best presentation card of Bétera and of a tradition that continues to be passed down from generation to generation.
