The former president of the Generalitat Valenciana , Carlos Mazón, and the former regional secretary of Emergencies, Emilio Argüeso , will appear on September 21 before the DANA investigative committee of the Congress of Deputies.
The committee's board agreed this Wednesday to incorporate the two appearances into its work plan during a meeting held behind closed doors, as parliamentary sources confirmed to EFE.
Mazón is scheduled to appear at 11:00 a.m., while Argüeso's speech is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Deputies from the different parliamentary groups will be able to question them about the circumstances and management of the DANA on October 29, 2024, which caused 232 fatalities.
Mazón will answer the deputies' questions again
Mazón currently remains a deputy for the Popular Party in the Valencian Parliament. His appearance will take place in the morning session of September 21st and will once again place the political focus on the regional management of the emergency.
The parliamentary committee continues to make progress in its appearances with the aim of analyzing the decisions adopted and the actions of the different administrations during the catastrophe.
Emilio Argüeso will appear at 3:30 p.m.
That same day it will also be the turn of Emilio Argüeso, who served as regional secretary of Emergencies of the Generalitat when the DANA occurred.
Argüeso is summoned at 3:30 p.m. He had already been summoned before this same commission last January, but then he excused himself from attending because he was on medical leave.
His appearance takes on special relevance because the former regional head of Emergencies is listed as one of the two people investigated, along with former minister Salomé Pradas, in the legal case investigating the management of the tragedy.
The judicial investigation and the parliamentary commission constitute, however, different procedures, with their own scopes and purposes.
The groups demand new appearances for DANA
The decision comes after in recent days representatives of the PSOE and Compromís demanded that the appearances of Mazón and Argüeso, as well as those of other political leaders, be promoted.
Among the names proposed is that of the president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Vicent Mompó. For her part, the Compromís deputy integrated into the Mixed Group, Àgueda Micó, has also defended the need for the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the main ministers related to the management of the emergency to appear before the second anniversary of the catastrophe.
The date of October 29 will mark two years since the 2024 DANA. Before that anniversary, the Congressional commission will continue to collect testimonies to try to reconstruct the management of an emergency that left 232 people dead.
The next featured event is now set for September 21, with Carlos Mazón at 11:00 a.m. and Emilio Argüeso at 3:30 p.m.
