Bétera commemorates World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Day by lighting up its Castle in red

The Bétera City Council joins the international campaign "Access changes lives" and shows its support for the people affected and their families

Bétera joins this September 7th in the commemoration of World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day (WDAD) , a day dedicated to giving visibility to this rare genetic disease and demanding better care and inclusion for people who live with it.

This year, the international commemoration is celebrated under the slogan "Access changes lives", a campaign that focuses on the need to guarantee access to early diagnosis, treatment, inclusive education and full participation in the community.

The Bétera City Council has wanted to join this awareness day by showing its support for people affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy and their families. As a symbolic gesture, tonight the Bétera Castle will be lit up in red.

"Access changes lives", motto of World Duchenne Day

The 2026 campaign claims that being able to access the necessary resources should not be considered a privilege, but a fundamental right capable of transforming people's lives and eliminating barriers.

The message encompasses different essential areas, starting with the possibility of obtaining an early diagnosis and continuing with access to treatments and adequate care.

The demand also extends to the daily lives of those affected. Inclusive education and community participation are part of a broader concept of accessibility, which seeks to guarantee opportunities and prevent the disease from creating additional barriers in society.

Bétera shows its support for Erick and his family

In its message on the occasion of World Day, the Betar city council wanted to convey its affection and solidarity to all those affected and their families.

The support also has a particularly close dimension. The City Council has dedicated a few words to little Erick and his family, to whom it has wanted to publicly accompany "all our affection, esteem and solidarity".

In this way, a commemoration of international scope also acquires a local component in Bétera , remembering that behind the awareness of rare diseases are people and families who live with them daily.

Bétera Castle will be lit up in red tonight

The commemoration will have a visible representation tonight in one of the most emblematic monuments in the municipality. The Bétera Castle will be illuminated in red with the aim of contributing to raising awareness among the population and giving visibility to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The symbolic lighting will allow Bétera to join the actions carried out on the occasion of World Day and for the demand to also be present on the streets of the municipality.

With this gesture, Bétera turns its Castle into a symbol of awareness, solidarity and support for people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the families who accompany them, adding the voice of the municipality to this year's message: "Access changes lives."
