Bétera doesn't stop even on the most festive days of the year. While the streets are bustling with gunpowder, basil and music as part of the August 2026 Festival, the City Council has given the green light in recent weeks to a set of social, labor and animal welfare measures that reinforce the council's commitment to the quality of life of the municipality's residents. Let's review the most outstanding municipal news of this first fortnight of August.
Bétera is committed to inclusive employment: 74,000 euros and five new hires
On August 4, the Bétera City Council announced a new initiative in terms of employment. The recruitments represent an investment of 74,383.88 euros, which will improve the employability of groups with special difficulties in accessing the labor market. In total, five people are joining the municipal workforce thanks to the collaboration with the Labora agency of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The recruitments are channelled through three public subsidy programmes. Within the framework of the EMDONA programme, the City Council has hired two janitors for ten months and full-time, thanks to a subsidy of 27,337.52 euros, aimed at promoting the employment of unemployed women, preferably over 45 years of age. Through the EMCORP programme, two janitors are hired, also for ten months and full-time, with a subsidy of 27,046.36 euros, aimed at facilitating access to employment for young unemployed people. For its part, the AVALEM programme allows the hiring of an administrative assistant for nine months and full-time, thanks to a subsidy of 20,000 euros, aimed at promoting the employment of unemployed people belonging to groups of greater vulnerability.
During the welcome to the new workers, Mayor Verdevío highlighted that "the incorporation of these five people represents an opportunity to continue generating employment and offering new opportunities to those who need it most." The Councilor for Employment, Rafael García, stressed that "collaboration between administrations is essential to develop effective active employment policies" and recalled that thanks to Labora funding they have been able to incorporate five people, promoting the employability of groups with greater difficulty entering the labor market.
Ethical management of feline colonies: a new four-year professional contract
Another of the measures implemented in the first days of August was the awarding of the contract for the ethical management and control of feline colonies in the municipality. The City Council has launched the new contract for the ethical management and control of feline colonies, an annual investment of 57,966.98 euros, VAT included, which reinforces the council's commitment to animal welfare and citizen coexistence, while guaranteeing the provision of the service with stability and continuity.
This contract will provide the Health Department with the necessary financial and technical resources to carry out sterilization, identification through the placement of microchips, deworming and vaccination of the animals registered in the locality in a professional manner.
The mayor of Bétera , Elia Verdevío, has assured that the entry into force of this service is "a big step forward for Bétera within the commitment of the Government Team to adjust to the new regulations and to guarantee a harmonious relationship between citizens and the cats in the municipal feline colonies."
The Health Councilor, Carlos Abad, highlighted that "for a municipality like Bétera , with 30,000 inhabitants, taking this step means professionalizing an essential service for public health and neighborhood coexistence". The annual budget is around 49,000 euros plus VAT and the expected duration is four years. In addition, the award to a local clinic will avoid trips to other municipalities, one of the practices that volunteers had assumed until now to make sterilizations cheaper.
The new contract will allow the care of community cats with health problems and will include sterilization, vaccination, deworming and operations when necessary. The Bétera City Council has highlighted the great work carried out by the volunteers of the feline colonies who, with their commitment and dedication, have contributed to the care and attention of the animals during the last months.
The Torre Bofilla Awards 2026, the night of local commerce and industry
Although the gala took place at the end of June, its effects continue to resonate in the economic life of the municipality. The commercial and business fabric of Bétera experienced the fifth edition of the Torre Bofilla Awards gala , the annual event with which the City Council recognizes the work, perseverance and talent of local businesses that make the municipality grow day by day.
The Bétera City Council awarded a total of eleven awards: four to companies proposed by the AEMON business association, another four to businesses at the initiative of the Bétera Merchants Association and an extraordinary prize. This edition has incorporated two new categories to highlight the contribution of women in the commercial and business life of the municipality.
The Torre Bofilla Awards are already a well-established event in the municipality, which recognizes and values the dedication, effort and excellence of the business and commercial sector. Since its first edition, the event has awarded a diverse business fabric every year: from businesses with decades of history to innovative companies that bring new visions to the local scene.
An intense August, beyond the Holidays
The image of Bétera in August is usually immediately associated with basil, gunpowder and party nights. But the municipal reality is much more complex and transversal. On the same dates when the Mayorals and the Obreres make the streets vibrate, the government team has not stopped its agenda of decisions and investments that directly affect the daily lives of residents.
From strengthening employment for vulnerable groups to professionalizing the management of the municipality's companion animals, through to recognizing local commerce and industry, Bétera demonstrates that municipal management capacity does not go on vacation. Each measure approved in these days adds up to a more cohesive, more equitable and better prepared municipality to face the challenges of the future.
"We continue working to create employment opportunities for the residents of Bétera ," said Mayor Elia Verdevío.
